Simply RedMellow My Mind

‘Mellow My Mind’ is taken from Simply Red’s sixth studio album Blue, released via East West Records in 1998. It was originally written and recorded by Neil Young in 1975. The Blue album was originally conceived as a covers album, but evolved to include several original tracks written by Hucknall.

Simply Red’s take on ‘Mellow My Mind’ differed to Young’s original track, which was more folk-rock. In keeping with their soulful style, the Simply Red version of the song is smooth and emotive, qualities that are retained and enhanced on the 2025 Recollections recording of the track.

LYRICS

Baby mellow my mind
Make me feel, like a schoolboy on good time
Jugglin’ nickels and dimes
Satisfied with the fish on the line

I’ve been down the road and I’ve come back
Lonesome whistle on the railroad track
Ain’t got nothin’ on those feelings that I had

Something so hard to find
A situation, that could casualise your mind

I’ve been down the road and I’ve come back
Lonesome whistle on the railroad track
Ain’t got nothin’ on those feelings that I had

I’ve been down the road and I’ve come back
Lonesome whistle on the railroad track
Ain’t got nothin’ on those feelings that I had.

Baby mellow my mind
Make me feel, like a schoolboy on good time
Jugglin’ nickels and dimes
Satisfied with a fish on the line
