Simply RedThinking Of You
‘Thinking of You’ is the first single from Simply Red’s twelfth studio album Blue Eyed Soul, released through BMG in 2019. The album debuted at number 6 in the UK charts, making it Simply Red’s 14th Top Ten UK album. Blue Eyed Soul saw Mick returning to his soulful roots in his songwriting, and being inspired by songwriters he grew up listening to such as James Brown, Bobby Bland and Wilson Pickett.
‘Thinking of You’ was recorded as a live track by Mick and the band, and then played around with by producer Andy Wright, who came up with additional instrumentation. Mick loved Andy’s take on the track, which was more energetic, feel good and up-tempo, and made the perfect opener for the album. The ‘BAM’ featured in the chorus was originally written by Mick as ‘YOU’, and later changed.
Although due to covid Simply Red never had the opportunity to tour Blue Eyed Soul, they performed ‘Thinking of You’ for the first time in the Summer of 2019 at BBC Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park.
