Any plans in 2012? All those years I was living and working in Italy and never got to see you in concert. A fan in Arkansas
Myself & two friends where three of the unlucky ones to miss the saturday night concert, living in the planet thanet we were swamped in snow and the weather warning was not to travel, not having the money to stay in a hotel, it was a case of having a dangous drive up, would we get home! Sara has a toddler to get home for, I’ve got dogs (i no but you don’t no my girls)! plus yes i had loaded the car with sleeping bags waterproof clothing, wheelies, you name it, it was there the other two where as well prepared but the thought of getting stuck in all of that horrid cold white stuff staying in the the car was just not giong to happen!! Two of us are far to old to be doing things like that! We didn’t get to the cinema because it either was’nt screened locally or not advertivsed. I am lucky enough to have been in brighton in june to see the band, dance’d all the way thro, only bought a guide thinking I would get my tshirt mug usb stick & other bits as my xmas treets, came out really looking forward to the 18th dec as these tickets where bought first, telling the other two what a great night we where all in for, YOU cannot understand what a disapointment it was to miss it. I have read all the other comments & i think that a dvd usb stick & tshirt &/or mug (prefurably both) would be a good farwell presant. I really am pleased for those who did get there I’m glad you had a good evening! However the O2 cancelled another event the self same night!!!!!
We had tickets for the 18…could not make it…they were transferred to the 19th…still could not go…Saw them at Radio City Music Hall and met Dave, Ian and Kevin…Mick after the show…it was so superb…I hated missing these last 2 shows!!! I will watch my dvd’s…that a good thing…they made sure that we could still watch them on stage.…LOVE FOREVER!!!!!!! XXXX
Hello Mick Hucknall and the band,
Me and my parents from holland has tickets for your last concert but cause our flight was cancelled we have not seen your concert so can you pls come with your band once again to our house for a concert we still have the tickets from 18 december
Frank from Holland
I have loved simply red for most of my adult life.
The live performance was far better than i could have expected. When the curtain dropped the stage took my breath away.
Micks voice is so strong and clear i cannot belief they will never be seen doing a live performance again.
I came to the show with my husband son daughter in law and family the tickets were a christmas present, one i shall never forget.
Good luck to all the band hope your dreams come truexxxxxxxx
Hi,
Karrie & Cary Wood here! With the chaos of christmas and family over the holiday, i have only just now got 5 minutes to catch up with what happened when the snow came!!!!
We were also gutted coz no way we could make the concert due to the weather. We have been big fans for 25 years and have seen the band many times. Simply Red have and still are part of the rich tapestry of our wonderful marriage.
No one could predict the weather and staying safe won the day! But it would be a fantastic gesture as others have suggested if Mick and his management company could see their way to giving those that missed it a live DVD/CD of the clearly great concert that it was,as said by those lucky enough to have made it! (or even better free tickets to a future SR event!! or is that pushing our luck for a renunion!! hee hee!)
Good luck to you Mick, your family and your band, hope this isn,t the end!
Lots of love & Have a Happy New Year Karrie & Cary xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I travelled from Australia to see the final Simply Red Farewell concerts. Rain, hail or shine wasn’t going to get in the way of me attending. Plus my fellow SR fan and I planned our trip taking into account volcano’s and all those other things Mother Nature can challenge us with.
I was so excited to see the complete band back on stage. Dee, John, Sarah & Chris do really add a certain quality to the SR sound, which can’t be produced electronically. Thanks to Mick and Management for hearing our pleas for the lovely ladies and John & Chris.
It was wonderful to see that nothing was going to keep the audience in their seats for this last round of concerts. So we were obliged to get up from the first song and dance also. *laughing* Try stopping us from getting up.
The chronological order of the set list was something new for me and I found it a lot of fun to have the slow’ys and the fast ones mixed together. It was a very memorable evening for me. But oh those bloody sunglasses, which weren’t removed, this time. Have I mentioned *laughing* I don’t like them or the barrier they put up between audience and performer. Maybe Mick was crying behind them and didn’t want to show his emotions to us. ;-)
Thanks heaps for a memorable evening. Sans sunglasses. OTBS.
Cheers
Pat.
I have just been reading all the comments and my hubby n i travelled all the way from Norfolk to the O2. Sometimes you have to take risks in life and this was one of them!
After a long journey we arrived at the O2 to enjoy a nice meal from our favourite Italian restaurant, before the concert started. My hubby being a Macey Gray fan was well happy!!! Mick n the gang were just brill (as usual).
Thanks for Craig in the queue outside for keeping us amused with your SR songs! Watchout for utube.xxxx
another fantastic concert by mick and the band, me and my daughter antonia had a wonderfull time, we sat next to 3 lovely simply red fans and we all enjoyed ourselves.
antonia who is 8 months pregant said her baby was dancing to mick as he sang,( baby with good taste).
hope you all had a lovely christmas and have a very happy new year,
love christina and antonia xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Wrong!! Simply red did not have the power to cancel. Only O2 had that option. Stop blaming Mick and the band. It makes me angry. You are selfish lacking consideration to the 80% that were there.
So Simply Red went ahead inspite of the fact that authorities had issued severe weather warnings with specific advice NOT to travel. One can only wonder at the organisers irresponsibility at expecting 20,000 folk to travel the length and breadth of the UK in those conditions.… having paid close attention to weather reports I assume those living in the east and north of London would have had little difficulty in traveling, and in true London centric opinion the rest of us can go hang.
The Show should have been rescheduled.….
As for olivia… there are those of us who make arrangements for child care etc , so that we can attend these concerts. We cannot travel on a wing and a prayer, when we go out we have to know we can get home again.. sorry that these issues Bore you it’s dreadful really i know..
After being ill for the last 10 days, (since I came back from the O2 gig),now able to post my thoughts. We had 2 tickets for the Sat O2 gig but because of the bad weather was not sure if to go BUT of course, we did. After a slow journey down by train and then travelled over London to hotel,me & my son made it to thr O2 just before 9. Mick and the band were on about 9.15, AND it was well woth the trip down. It was great to see Dee & Sarah, John & Chris, again, you have been missed. Mick and the band all performed as brilliantly as ever. There were a few seats by me & Rich,(A3) but it looked like most people had made the effort. We were well rewarded. So pleased to hear For Your Babies.
I look forward to your new venture Mick, you have to keep singing with your superb voice and musical talents.
Another great evening with Mick & the band.. and only just made it back from Oslo with snow at Heathrow. It was worth every effort — great music, lyrics and Mick vocals… thanks Simply Red
My sister and I made the show after a tense few hours, do we go don’t we go. We have been Simply Red fans for 26 years and have never missed a concert, going 2or 3 times when they have toured. We had fab seats at front of the O2. the atmosphere was electric. When Mick was singing ‘Sunrise’ I looked all around the venue, it was amazing there was so much love in that oozing from every corner of the place for a wonderful band. Everyone was having a’ball’. Thankyou so much for a fab time.
Sorry my family and I could not make it to the concert on 18th due to the snow and no train service home. We were really upset as we had been looking forward to it all year. Sounds like it was a brilliant evening and I now look forward to seeing the live recording in a cinema next year. I do think you could have been a bit more compassionate Olivia with you comments. Not all of us have the finances to be able to stay overnight in London or were even able to get to London safely! It is a bit harsh telling fans who missed the concert that they didn’t try hard enough to get there!!
Simply Red farewell !
I am so bored of listening to people moan on here about this concert! Yes it is understandable that people are upset they could not make it but as it has been pointed out, there were weather warnings WELL in advance so people could have made arrangements to travel earlier or stay over on the friday night??? And these sets of shows were his FAREWELL SHOWS, a lot of people paid a lot of money (well over the £50 ticket face value price) to attend on the basis that these would be the last ever chance to see Simply Red so putting another date on next year would be a total slap in the face to these people. It is not a case of being heartless, I do sympathise with the people that missed an AMAZING show, but there were ways to avoid missing it!
First time to see Simply Red live and what a show Mick and the band put on, Simply Red, Simply Out of This World.
Sorry to read about all the people who missed the concert however cancelling it would have been wrong for the fact that there were more people in the 02 then there were empty seats so cancelling the concert would not have been fair to all those who were able to get there. I had to travel by air and rail and stay in two hotels but managed to arrive in time. You can’t please everyone all of the time but I think Mick and the band made the correct call.
And I do know what its like when a concert is cancelled as I travelled by air and rail last year to see Elton John only to have him cancel all his UK concerts, I was also disappointed but its one of those things.
Anyway Mick and the band thanks for a great evening and music can’t wait to watch the live DVD.
nade it up from bristol it was really great mick was marvellous as usual
Travelled from Waterford in Ireland to Birmingham spent two hours on a bus to luton and another hour in a very cold taxi got to our hotel at 4 in the morning went to the saturday night concert as all the concerts i have been to over the past 15years Mick didnt disapoint great seats thanks to my husband who has come to every concert with me and says hes not a fan but was still dancing
Really gutted missed the show on the 18th due to the awful weather conditions, bought my mum tickets as a surprise for her birthday and had been saving up for a hell of a long time, it took us an hour to move about 2 miles where we live so there was no chance we was going to get there and turned back. after all these years of support would it really hurt to do a one of concert early next year for those one couldnt make it? after all it wasnt just one or two that couldnt make it, it was thousands !
Devastated! A special treat for mum and I ended in complete disappointment when we could not attend because of the weather! We were so looking forward to hearing Mick sing for the first and last time and now we can only imagine the wonderful night the lucky people had who managed to get there. Goodbye £90.00, goodbye Simply Red! Sorry that when we hear your music in future it will be tinged with sadness for a wonderful experience that was never to be.….
I was one of the unfortunate people who could not make it to the O2, I have been a fan and club member of Simply Red since 1985 and I have never missed a concert. I was out of the country and had a plane ticket to arrive home on the 17th, but my flight was cancelled at Prague airport and I only managed to get a flight on the 20th to arrive back in London. You can imagine how disappointed I am at not seeing ‘The Reds’ last concert. At the airport I could not be consoled, this has ruined my Christmas. I truly thought that the concert would have been cancelled as Simply Red have such a following all over the country and I am sure that many people were stranded and unable to make the venue. As many people have stated Mick should put on a concert for all the loyal fans that were bitterly disappointed. Club member 1614
I am among one of the several thousand that could not make it to the 02, due to the adverse weather conditions. I understand the weather is beyond yours or anyones control but surley due to all of the weather ‘warnings’ the concert should have been postponed. I purchased my tickets in March and had a hotel booked for 2 nights in London for my Mums Christmas present. I fully understand that you are not willing to refund ANY tickets, but please consider a DVD or recording of the concert, so that we can enjoy our own ‘farewell tour’ from the safety of our own home!
Thank you.….thank you.……thank you.…..for an amazing night!!! BIG hugs xoxo
Thank you Simpy Red for an amazing night.…..!!!!!
xoxo
I feel very sorry for all the people who missed the concert on Saturday 18th, but I feel it would have been an injustice to cancel. The 02 was at least 85% full and I did’nt really think that the outside area was that dangerous. I understand some people have to travel a long way, which is why we arranged to stay in London for the weekend as it was my husbands 50th Birthday.
With regards the concert yes Mick and the band were fantastic as they always are, but I am sorry to say they were only on for an hour and a half and only 1 encore, after 25yrs of support from your loyal fans I do think at least 2hrs would have been fair. I understand in Manchester he was on stage for 2hr 45min. I know Manchester is his home town but we are all fans no matter where we come from.
Anyway all in all a great night and fab weekend.
Was due to see Mick on Sunday 19th December but like so many others had to turn around due to the awful weather conditions.
So many gigs around the country were cancelled realising it was to unsafe for many to travel so I’m surprised this wasnt. Spent £150 on 2 tickets & i’m gutted that i won’t get the opportunity to see simply red tour again.
Have been a big fan of Simply Red since the 80s. Over the years have seen around 8 live concerts. Saturday at the O2 was spectacular. We travelled from near Southend and managed to get there despite the freezing cold, snowy weather. I was worried that we would not make it but I did noticed a fair few empty seats. Considering the concert was a sell out, I feel so sorry for the fans who did not make it due to the weather. As usual Mick and the whole band were fantastic. Have to send best wishes to all of them and trust they all go on to have much success. Happy Christmas to all plus baby Hucknall.
My very first memory is singing Simply Red with my dad, being only 23 I have grown up with Simply Red playing all through my life and I absolutely adore them! I was so very happy I could make it to one of your final concerts and was actually brought to tears at some points! The concert was amazing and I am so glad you went ahead with it as I would have missed out on one of the best moments of my life so far otherwise. true musical talent!
I was lucky enough to get a ticket for a really good seat and have been sooooo excited for the 18th dec, then like a lot of people I couldn’t make it due to the snow. I was in tears!!! Through your website I heard about the cinemas showing the final concert on the 19th and amazingly my local cinema was showing it!! I slid on ice (-6’C)all the way but got there in the end. I was thrilled that Mick mentioned us in cinemas around the country and even more pleased when he said he hoped that we were all standing up singing and dancing. I cheered and thought at last all the stuffy boring reserved English people around me would finally ‘get in to it’ but alas not and as I was right in the middle of a row I was reduced to tapping my feet, mouthing the words and silently clapping my hands!! PLEASE PLEASE put on 1 more show in London for all of us that couldn’t get there on the 18th to enjoy the amazing music and atmosphere!
I can’t believe this weather. Had two tickets for the concert and was really looking forward to it. Left my home in Norfolk at 1515 hours to give myself plenty of time in this weather only to have to turn back because the motorway was very dangerous with cars and lorries skidding all over the place. The snow was so bad you couldn’t see in front of you or the road/hard shoulder. Come on Mick, I have been a fan for many years and have seen Simply Red many times, give it another go when the weather improves. Let us dedicated fans have another concert. PLEASE!
Hi Simply Red!
I’m a loyal fan since just about 6 years, because I didn’t know the songs and the band before. I was at several concerts in Switzerland where I’m leaving and I travelled as well to Berlin and in December to London to see you. I was there on 08th of December and I had good luck to travel smoothly without all the snow. It was a great show — as usual — and I was sitting (dancing) in the first row in the middle. The concert was full of emotions and the music absolutely lovely. In my car the MP3s are playing all the times — and everytime, when I’m playing the CD, I hear something new in the details of the sound.
My mother is not so healthy at the moment and already in here 70ies. But she loves your music as me — so I took her with me to the concert in Zurich in November. That was the first time for here ever to attend a concert. She was crying when you were performing some of your songs.
In total: Thanks a lot for your music, your emotions and your presence over the last 25 years! I love to start over and be a fan from the beginning. But with my 33 years I had to start earlier… ;-D
It’s bad to hear, that not everybody made it to the show on 18th — but please stop to be sad about Simply Red just because the money! Much more important is, that this band gave us so much during the last years and that we could so many good times in the past with them! Let them have nice memories about their last concerts and thing about the good times you had with their music. I would do the same.
Well: THANKS A LOT FOR EVERYTHING! Whenever you plan to start again — feel free to do so! ;-D
Andre
If you were one of the people that made the final shows at the O2 how lucky you are! But why are people making those of us who could not travel feel worse than we already do? Not making an effort to get there is not the same as being advised not to. Again many of us could not leave our home towns …so there is no point in keep telling us that tubes, buses in London were running. WE COULD NOT GET THERE!!!! I have not requested a refund I would like the right thing to be done. Come on Mick .…for all those fans who have missed you due to the weather give them a chance to say goodbye. The nearest cinema to me showing the final concert was 25 miles…NO BUSES running .…I do not drive and if I did the roads were not safe. I had no choice…you did and do Mick!!
Really great concert and Mick’s voice is amazing. However did feel a bit “cheated” because he sang 23 songs on the Sunday concert but only 19 on Saturday. Why?
John
I had not originally planned to go to this concert, my original plan was for 2 outdoor and 4 indoor gigs but as my tour started my programme grew to 4 outdoor and 6 indoor ones — well it is the Farewell tour after all!
This one came about as a result of a fan being unable to attend and was offerred to me by Jennie (Red Rose) via Yolanda Crockett. It was row 2 so how could I refuse?
After hastilly arranging a hotel for saturday night which fortunately several other fans were staying at I duly set off at 11.30 am saturday morning with the intention of attending the fans meeting at the Slug and Lettuce organised by Patsy Courtois from Luxembourg.
So I set off to cover the 150 miles from Burton-on-Trent to my hotel near the O2. Making good time on the M1 I was a 100 miles into my trip when the snow started within a few minutes the motorway was at a standstill! We sat not moving for hours I had the travel news on radio listening to all the road problems. Watching the clock move I started to wonder how long it would take to get there once the traffic started moving. When we finally moved it was only yards and in 3 hours covered 1 mile! Well we eventually moved slow at first but it was difficult as M1 was thick with snow and no gritters due to gridlock.
Radio news was not good most roads I needed to use had problems. M25, A13, M11 all had some stoppages. Eventually 2 miles from M25 exit heard it was gridlocked where I needed to join it! So continued on M1 onto the A406 North Circular road. This thankfully was clear and made good progress. Arrived in area of my Hotel but could not find it and it was getting late so abandoned hotel and set off for O2 never been to it before so could see it and set off towards it but saw no signs. So stopped and asked to find I was going wrong way! Through Blackwall tunnel parked at O2 and made way to reception to collect my ticket finally got in at 9.30 to find concert underway!
So glad I persevered though and enjoyed a fantastic evening of the best band performing songs from the past 25 years!
So good to see John, Chris, Dee and Sarah included for the final two nights and must say the difference they made to the sound was very noticeable you have been missed guys!
To finish I feel I need to respond to some of the negative comments made re the gig going ahead. As a latecomer I did not see that many empty seats! I do not obviously know the reasons people complaining were unable to get there or how far they needed to travel.
However I cannot see how the concert should have not gone ahead — The majority of fans made it and many had come from accross Europe, America and many parts of the world — How would it have been fair to them and the hardy fans who had managed to get there to be told ‘Sorry the concert is cancelled!’. Many more made it than those who did not so whilst sympathising I believe SR and the organisers O2 et all made the right decision. Personally I am so glad I did not give up and just go home.
Fantastic gig and so good to meet old and new SR friends at my last but one concert!
this was the most fantastic concert. Travelled from Lincolnshire without too much difficulty shame for those of you that missed it. Macy Gray did a good job of getting the crowd warmed up it was, as some have said , a great party atmosphere. Mick seemed equally as glad to be there lots of crowd acknowledgement which I love. Well done to the guy who had us all singing SR tunes as we queued outside waiting for the tube a fun ending to a memorable night
rich and di, ashford kent, wasn‘t sure to go or not due to the weather but O2 said concert still on so didn‘t want to waste our tickets,it was worth braving it, the concert was amazing, mick and simply red were spot on as always, concerts won‘t be the same now they stoped, what a night,
For all the people that made it and think the only reason the ones who didn’t make it are complaining is because of the money, please think again!
We are complaining because we cannot believe the irresponsibility of the management allowing the concert to go on when everyone was advised not to travel unless absolutely essential. Roads from my house were gridlocked to London, leaving at 9am in the morning was not possible due to family commitments, hotels being booked were not possible — seems to me like the ones that got there were not thinking as sensibly as others — we are upset because we also love Simply Red and are gutted that we COULDN’T be there not just couldn’t be bothered. I was in tears all Saturday evening because of it, plus it was a present for my mum’s birthday next week.
I had bought four tickets for Saturday’s concert months ago as a gift for my parents on their 20th wedding anniversary. So, when the day came and 2pm brought a shed load of snow to Essex, we didn’t think we were going to be able to make it. My boyfriend cleared the car of snow several times as I was desperate for us to make it, even though he said it was far too dangerous.
At 4pm, we made a last-minute decision to go for it! Had to make my parents walk out of their town as it was gridlock, but we made it to the o2 for 7pm — phew!
And we are so so so glad we took the chance!! As someone else on here has said, it was like a party rather than a concert! What an atmosphere! And we were all amazed at how perfect Mick sounded — it was just like hearing the CD, but a million times more exciting!
So gutted we’ll never see Simpy Red again. But so chuffed we got the chance to see them at all.
Thank you so much Mick and Simply Red for the last 25 years, you have been a pleasure to listen to and to watch, I have seen you 10 times in the last 4 years and thought the Concert on Saturday was one of your best, may I wish you all the very best of luck for the future, I only wish you would carry on doing what you do best forever — thank you again for your great music it will be listened to for many years x
thought we wernt gonna make it coz of the weather but we fought through the snow and ice and made it! one of our friends couldnt make it as all trains cancelled where she lives so was bitterly disapointed. FANTASTIC concert glad we didnt miss it — the BEST ever. Mick and the band looked and sounded great — good to see them all together. Have followed them from the beginning — even been to Malta to see them. Will miss you Simply Red. Wishing you all a long, happy, healthy future. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING. LOADS LOVE AND KISSES to you all. Happy Christmas and Happy 2011.xxxxxxxxxxxx
When I saw the weather I thought it would have been cancelled, but rang the 02 they said no its still going ahead!! We had brought VIP tickets as it was there last show (until the 19th was on sale)but that didnt put us off we had a hotel booked as well as we were going to do the whole thing in stlye!!! We left home at 12.30 (Cheam Surrey)got to the hotel at 4pm.We had to be at the 02 at 6.30 for the meal. We met some lovely people who was at our table ( if your reading this Lisa & Mark was lovely meeting you)The experince was amazing only wished we had done this before. It was the best way to start a Concert, 5 star meal great company and the most amazing band!!!
Was great seeing the whole band and the girls together!! For 1 last time.We have followed them for 25 years so was very sad to say goodbye. ( I think the only person that will be happy that it was there last one is my bank account) can start saving now !! Best ever concert !!
So all I can say is thankyou for the music over the last 25 years Simply Red we have had the time of our lives!!
Wish you all & your familes A happy christmas and a very restfull New year. Thankyou once again!!! Love Julie
Phew,we made it! Eleven and a half hours from Sheffield to the O2. Three hours stationary at junction 6 on the M1. Thanks to Alan (thelegend) our coach driver for not giving up and getting us through. A swift drink and Macy Gray’s last two numbers later we were ready for action.
Great to see the full line up—the sound was richer, but Simply Red have never failed to be fantastic whatever the line up. So thanks for the last 25 years, Mick, What will do for concerts now? For us it really is the end of an era.
The bloke who said on Twitter that the O2 was only 20% full was either not at the concert or has very poor numeracy skills. Once again thank you Simply Red for an amazing night.
As ever the concert on Saturday night was fantastic, you are a true legend Mick with a fantastic faultless voice. We will miss seeing you performing with Simply Red.
We travelled down to the O2 from Lincolnshire and struggled through the snow to get there — imagine how we would have felt if the concert had been cancelled, the right decision was made to go ahead.
We could have stayed at home we live in Kent but as I am diehard fan I decided to go and boy was I not disappointed the guys and Mick was Superb the show was amazing also please please dont stop touring
It is sad that the final concert has been overshadowed by the weather issue.i like many thought i wouldn’t make it.But i was one of the lucky ones. The arena was 95% full so the decision to go ahead was the right one.It waa the best atmosphere EVER of all the concerts i have been to, it Felt like a party! thanks simply red for all the years of fantasic music, can’t believe we won’t evEr see you live again.wishing you all a fantastic christmas and what ever the future new year brings you may it be sucessful.
THANKYOU FOR THE MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOVE AND BEST WISHES SANDRA
I am a disabled person and had 2 x tickets in the wheelchair section to see Simply Red on Sat 18th. But due to the extreme weather conditions was unable to get to the show through no fault of my own. I am angry that the show went ahead especially as now I find out that the indigo2 cancelled due to health & safety of the fans. I can’t even get a refund of my tickets. My tickets were booked in March of this year. How do they expect a disabled person to risk their life, health & safety getting to the show. This was supposed to have been my christmas present. Don’t they care about their loyal fans. It was a bad ending to their farewell show.
Had tickets for the 18th, but couldn’t make it cos of the weather and travel conditions. A bloke on twitter said O2 was only 20% full, sounds more like it than what others are saying. Unused tickets should be given DVD/USB recording, not as if the O2 or Simply Red can’t afford it. At least it would make us feel slightly better.
great show last night (sat)
me and my wife travelled by car,a return journey of 250 miles so if the show was cancelled due to the weather would we get a refund on the diesel we used and the price of hotel? i dont think so
for all you people that missed it due to the weather, didnt any of you see the news/weather forecast that had been on the tele all week.i did thats why we left home at 9.30 am on sat morning
I’m sorry but I just cannot believe the selfishness of some people. Because a few people could not make it do they really expect the majority to miss out? We travelled in a party of 6 from the Midlands (some by train, the rest by car). Had we not have made it we would have been gutted, but with some it all seems to be about money. Had the concert have been cancelled we would have lost our train fare and hotel cost, but this would have been nothing compared with the disappointment at missing the amazing Simply Red. There were not many empty seats and everyone had a brilliant time, as usual. Can’t believe we won’t be doing it again. Come on Mick, just one more time, for all the loyal fans who care more about the band than a few bob. Mick, you always leave us wanting more
We made it to the o2 even in the snow, and me not well, trains were running to london and appeared to have no problems. What a fabulous show, my only disappointment is with the transport companies as the last train from Waterloo home was 11.20 and therefore we had to leave at 10.40 to catch our train. Amazing performance fab music and no difference between live or recorded. Well done for a fab evening
Despite over 25cm of snow in the North West, we made it to London yesterday for a brilliant concert.
I feel sorry for those who couldn’t get there, but it was screened at a number of cinemas last night & tonight, and there would have been a lot more people upset if it had been cancelled given that the arena was about 90% or more full.
My wife’s the Simply Red fan, not me, and this was her christmas prsent. But after last night, I could be converted. A brilliant set. Thank you Simply Red for a wonderful night.
I know it’s frustrating, but the annoyance has got to be with the promoter, not the band — I can’t see them having any control, and the vast majority of people did make it — from all parts of the globe — should they have cancelled and upset the majority? How would you feel if you were in the majority? That said, maybe the Promoter should refund tickets for people who couldn’t make it, but then how could you decide that? I feel really sorry for Martin Lewis, how sad — I hope it all works out for you — it shows how much these shows actually mean to people — we’ve grown up with this band, and sadly, some did not make it to the latest shows because they are no longer here — lets count ourselves lucky that we are still here to miss the gigs. Lets remember the good times.
One of the lucky ones that made it to the concert last night, it was a fantastic night and Mick and the boys were brilliant. Cannot wait to see him doing his new stuff and listen to that fantastic voice again. It would be nice if the band and management could agree some kind of compensation for the unlucky fans that could not make it due to the weather conditions, because I know I would have been gutted myself if I had missed one of the last shows!!!!!!!
Almost a consolation to see so many other comments on here from fellow fans who could not make the show either due to the snow. I am sorely disappointed and saddened. Despite every attempt to travel I have missed both 18th and 19th shows — I have noted some peoples comments re SR Management postponing/cancelling shows in order for everyone to make it at a later date when the weather improves — I would say that whatever the rights and wrongs of the matter may be, I honestly think that Simply Red should do one more show at the O2 in the new year for us that the snow got the better of and of course fans who made it and wish to go again — I can tell you that if that were to happen, I would definately be there.
It’s good to see sympathetic comments from attendees who made it on the 18th to those of us whose seats were empty — thank you. To miss farewell shows is hard — won’t forget this unfortunate weekend for a while.
I came along way for the concert yesterday, I left my house at 9:30am. Disrupted transport and the weather made life difficult but I made it and loved absolutly every second of it from Macy Grey to ‘Holding back the Years’.
Thankyou SIMPLY RED!! and good luck with what’s next :)
I was stuck in snow most of the day.If the o2 arena holds 23,000 and was 85% full then some 4,000 missed the event most like me cause of the weather. If SR gave us a free DVD of the concert limiting to one per household might be only 2,000 ish copies.
What a nice gesture to end on
Yours a maths student as well as a SR fan for years
Just got back to Devon after a 400 mile round trip to see Simply Red at the O2. What a fantastic night and well worth slipping and sliding up the motorway, and being stuck on the tube for nearly 2 hours. Mick and the band were fantastic and danced the whole night long.
So glad it wasn’t cancelled. Travelled up from Portsmouth (started out at 11.am Sat) Great concert. Husband waited at the hotel we were staying in (not a fan, sorry). Thanks for all the great music!!!
Are there any plans to release a copy of the last concert on DVD?
Good luck for the future!
did’nt make it due to the weather, but glad it was a good concert.Have seen simply red over twenty times and am gutted did’nt get to see them for a last time.
Only O2 admin has the contractual power to cancel shows unless artist is sick or unable to attend. Regarding the indigo show the DJ’s were stranded and therefore were unable to perform. Simply Red are not contractually able to cancel as any bands insurance at the O2 does not cover changes in the weather. The O2 was 80% full last night (I should know, I work there) truth is the band were contractually unable to NOT do the show. Love Lucy (huge fan!) almost sorry to tell some of you the concert was FAB!
We also like many others were not able to get to the O2 due to the snow. Our coach driver tried his best to get us there but we were told the M40 had been closed. So not our fault that we couldn’t get to the concert. Really hope the O2/ Simply Red do something for the loyal fans and refund our ticket money. The price of tickets is too much to lose when you have worked hard to pay for the tickets for the concert. After all ‘Money’s to tight to mention’.
I wish people would stop asking for refunds, my daughter was in London, on a school trip, when the tube bombings went off and they didn’t see a show, which we had paid for. We did not get a refund and we did not demand a refund.
It’s a terrible shame for all those who couldn’t make it, but the Reds hands were tied. They were in a no-win position. If they cancelled, the 9,500 fans who turned up would have been as disappointed. And by playing, they seriously disappointed those 4,500 poor fans who could not get there. For the record, the other venue in the O2 that called off the show is a 900 seat club and they could have as easily gone ahead. I would suggest that before pillorying Simply Red and their people, give them time to react to this and then judge them. I am certain that nobody in the SR organisation was glad that all those fans could not make it and thinking only of the money. Perhaps time will allow them to come up with some form of consolation for their fans, be it either another show or something else.
Sadly, for many fans, and the band’s reputation in those fans’ eyes, they had to go ahead.
What a great night and fantastic show ..worth every penny,Left home in wokingham at 9-30am checked in to our hotel in london at 4-30pm and went straight there with friends.Mick you were great 3rd time me and julie have seen you and wish it could be more .Good luck for the future.
The concert was fantastic and my husband and I enjoyed every song — pity it couldn’t have gone on longer. Our journey to get to the O2 was horrendous, but along with 1,000s of others we made it. If the show had been cancelled, I would have been really gutted. I sympathise with those who weren’t able to get there, but we live in Oxfordshire and travelled to London on Friday night staying with our son. We still had to battle the snow on Saturday and the problems with the underground. Still, it was worth it — even the awful journey back today and having to dig my car out at Oxford Park and Ride. As a small consolation, perhaps the organisers could ensure those fans unable to attend could be given a dvd of the final concert 9I’m sure they’ll be making one. All those unlucky fans would need to do is send in their unused tickets.
My frustration is that we could not get to the 02 last night through no fault of our own– along with 1000’s of others and we cant get a refund. It is bad enough to miss the final show– (well i purchased tickets for what was the final show until they put an additional night on making Sunday the last night– but thats another story!!) but not to give us a refund is disgraceful…
Me and my family were so upset we did not get to the gig. The M40 was closed and we just couldn’t get there. Spirits were high on the coach and we listened to Simply Red for a good 8 hours. Really disappointed that the gig wasn’t cancelled and could be re-scheduled. Have to agree with all the comments — it’s disgraceful that all that money has been lost. I’m guessing tickets were re-sold to fill the arena because I know a lot of people who were travelling a very long way to see the gig? Definately think refunds should be given, I know our coach driver did everything he could to get us there but when they close roads its just impossible.
We had a great night last night — an amazing performance and so glad the concert went ahead. Do feel for those who missed it due to the weather but the arena was 95% full so most people made it there. We had paid a lot for out tickets and when we heard the weather forecast we travelled up a day early to make sure we got there and are thankful that we did that. Thank you Simply Red and good luck for the future.
So pleased the concert went ahead, amazing performance and brilliant night. Do feel for those who missed it due to the weather but the arena was 95% full so most people made it there. We made the decision to travel the day before when we saw the forecast and were thankful that we did that. Thank you Simply Red and Merry Christmas.x
Really sorry to have missed the concert due to sdverse weather conditions. Like others, feel that there should be some compensation for people who couldnt make it. Wont be rushing back to anything else at the O2.
I am absolutely gutted that because of the snow and being snowed in in the chilterns My family and I had to miss the concert. It took us 6 hrs to go to High wycombe(15 Miles away) and back , and it was then that it was obvious to travel to London was not safe.As much as I love Simply Red it would have been no consulation for the rest of our family had we been killed. I spent close on £200 for tickets and parking and the fact that there is no mention of some sort of compensation in the form of a reschedule or free cd of the night for those of us who missed it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I know that its not the bands fault that the weather was bad but this would be a nice gesture.Especially as for a lot of us money is to tight to mention. Merry Christmas , I could cry.….
I just wanted to post again to explain to the lucky ones that got to the concert why us that didn’t are slightly negative to the band themselves.
If the Simply Red team (band and management) had considered the weather and the health and safety of all the fans, then they would have cancelled the concert the same as other concerts etc had been cancelled.
Of course they can’t control the weather, we all know that, but they could have made the right decision for everyone.
Brilliant show last night Mick and band delivered 100% as usual, travelled up with a mate from Kent found the roads to be pretty clear, feel sorry for the people that were unable to make it. Good luck to Mick in his new venture, Simply red songs will carry on for eternity!
What an amazing concert yesterday. Thank you Simply Red!! And how lovely that they had the full band including dee, Sarah, Chris and John. It was good to see you again.
I’m feeling with the ones who could not make it due to bad weather conditions but I am sad that now a certain negativity concerning the band comes up. They are not responsible for the weather. Hopefully tonight eveyone will make their way.
Dec 19th, 4 of us booked tickets ages ago & because of extreme weather were unable to get there. A part refund offer would be nice or at least a copy of the DVD for concert to make up for disappointment
I agree with all those comments. Simply red and their management obviously only care about taking peoples money and not their fan’s safety. I really feel some compensation should be paid. The people who were not able to make it were doing the responsible thing and not putting peoples lives at risk and stretching the emergency services even further. How come all these other events including another one at the o2 were able to make a sensible decision. It must have been a financial decision for simply red. What a sad way to end their career it just leaves a sour taste.
Brilliant concert, atmosphere was electric as the arena was actually 95% full. Real shame for those who did not make due to weather but SIMPLY R M made the correct call to go ahead with the concert.
Fantastic concert– really Sorry for the guys who did not make it to the concert but the arena was 95% full! and the atmosphere was brilliant. Simply red M made the right call to go ahead.
we couldnt get to the 02– we had over 50cm of snow– the M40 was at a standstill as was the m25, we were being advised not to travel unless completely necessary and yet the show went ahead. The indigo event was cancelled due to ‘adverse
weather and h&s issues’. The event should have been cancelled. It is outrageous that we are not entitled to a refund– i spent £170 on tickets. We simply couldnt get there– and not for lack of trying!!
Me and my husband were unable to get to the O2 last night due to the weather, we don’t live in London, unable to get to O2 gutted to miss the concert had my tickets since March booked car parking, so looking forward to going, O2 cancelled another event at the O2 for public safety, why not simply red? did our safety not matter, but money did! We will not get another chance to see simply red at no fault of our own. Another concert or live recording would be nice to ease the pain of missing the last chance to see simply red.
We bought four tickets in March 10 as a Christmas present for the family but found on the day that Southeastern rail network scheduled the last train out of London at 19.42 because of the severe weather. Needless to say we couldn’t go and feeling very disappointed. Couldn’t find anyone to talk to about possible refund only automated messages. Found out that the O2 had cancelled the Clubnight event at the O2 Indigo because of the severe weather and Health and Safety concerns. What about the H & S concerns of people going to the Simply Red concert. The show must go on!!!!!!!!!! Who are you kidding? All we can look forward to now is a recording of the live event to be shown in cinemas next year. Is there anything else you can compensate us with? My family have been loyal fans for many years and feeling so sad we missed the farewell!
So disappointed in the Simply Red management team for going ahead with the concert last night as myself and 4 friends could not get there due to the weather.
We were all so looking forward to seeing them for the last time — we booked our tickets at the beginning of March.
We could not get to the O2 as the roads from ours were in chaos and at a standstill.
I just hope we get some sort of compensation from Simply Red as I have been a fan all their 25 years and am so gutted about last night. Cannot believe they put themselves before the safety of their loyal fans.
So many events were cancelled all over the country including the gig at Indigo2 — we are so gutted to have missed it.
Once again my husband and I were due to go to the Saturday night show, we were amazed that flights were cancelled, most of the tube was not running and the roads were so dangerous! But the show went ahead!!!! We feel that another concert for the people who either missed this concert or the last concert tonight should be offered!!! Its an expensive time of year, people have paid alot of money for their tickets, all we want is to get what we paid for to see THE FAREWELL TOUR !!!!
My daughter who lives in Wales bought me tickets for christmas to see the show in the o2 yesterday.Due to the weather she could not travel to Oxford to meet me.I decided reluctantley to go on my own.I left home at 11.30 to make the the 7 mile journey to catch the coach to London.I arrived back home at 18.30 after spending 7 hours stuck in my car due to the weather.I was/am so upset for not being able to get to the venue.
The band are very special to me because at the moment i am going through a divorce and my wife and i never missed a concert. It was going to be so hard to sit through the show on my own.
I agree with Elvy,s comments, maybe a free live recording would ease the pain a little bit.
What a day! What a night! We set out early to make sure we, at least, got there and were prepared for spending the night on the tiles or snow if need be. As it was we were lucky and had plenty of time — even went to cinema first!
I feel really sorry for those who could not make it. How frustrating to say the least! I would agree the arena was probably around 85% rather than 50% full.
But the show — well — what can I say! Brilliant as ever and nice to hear a couple of less often performed songs. We liked the intro video and backing scenes. I was pleased Mick and ALL the gang were there and that they did Holding back the Years as the last song. So sad! The show was stonking from the start with everyone on the floor on their feet as soon as Mick came on stage. Wouldn’t wanted to have been “up in the Gods” = not much chance of boogieing up there although some were. Scary!
Little bit late in starting which was a shame but luckily made it back to Waterloo in time for train — hope everyone else did.
Plans now in hand to get to Haslemere for live screen viewing tonight, which I fear will be more of a challenge!
Thank you so much Simply Red for all the years and heres to the next. Have a good rest first but can’t wait to see what the future will bring.
Love and Happy Christmas and New Year to all
Susie x
Well we traveled from south Devon to see simply red and it was worth every minute of driving up the motorway in snowy conditions. Great night, great atmosphere. Remember it is not the bands fault that some of you could not make it — they do not control the weather!! Mick you were outstanding
had no trouble getting a train last night ‚the concert was fantastic ‚nobody sings live like mick, didn’t really notice that many empty seats and the atmosphere was great .thankyou for 25 years of fantastic songs and looking forward to the dvd xxx
Rang the 02 — concert still on — Mick on at 9.00pm! Decision made to go for it! So glad we did — Simply Red — Simply Fantastic! Anybody going tonight will have a devine time. Be safe & enjoy x
Very disappointed that Simply Red and their management took such an irresponsible attitude. It feels like they were only interested in taking our money with no regard for our safety. On a night when airports were shut, motorways were at a standstill, events across the country including at the O2 were cancelled I am amazed that the event went ahead. We set off but it was too dangerous to get to London as we passed several crashes. I hope simply red work out someway to compensate us.
What a great night so glad it was not cancelled and it was about 85% full. Mike was just Great only at the end would have like him to do and oncore. Iam looking forward to seeing him with the new faces as he has a great voice which is a credit to the man.
We missed the concert due to the weather had booked the car parking and everything.Assume that nothing will happen till after tonight if tonights weather is bad.Quite easy the venue will know how many ticket holders did not turn up last night.Assuming 99% were due to the weather SR management will then know the total number of loyal fans that were affected and therefore the likey cost of any offers reduced price DVD CD another concert !!!!!!!!!!!
Well, i ignored advise not to travel and managed to make it to the show! Slight delays on tubes but apart from that travel was fine. So sad for those people that couldn’t make it but the venue i think was at least 85% full so lots did, i spoke to people that had travelled from Mexico, USA and Russia and they sure would of been devastated if it had been cancelled so i for one think the right decision was made for it to go ahead. Course it would be nice if they could have another date to compensate those people that couldn’t make it:-)
Fantastic show and great to see the full band, Mick looking gorgeous and sounding great at usual. Can’t wait for tonight although it will be very emotional knowing it is their last one.
Good luck in whatever Mick and the band do next and thanks for a wonderful 25 years xx
Took advice from emergency services not to travel to the O2 last night, it’s a shame the Simply Red management team didn’t act on this advice and cancel the concert like other events. Surely an additional gig for all those loyal fans who were unable to make it should be considered. It should be free as “Money’s too tight to mention”…
10 out of the 16 posts to date are from people who could not get to the concert.Says something
Well I spent most of yesterday reading comments on FBook of people who just like myself were unable to travel. Oxford was snow bound so could not even get a local bus let alone a London one. Arena half full with people who were lucky enough to make the show. Lots couldn’t.…not SR’s fault but come on we are the people who have kept him where he has been for the past 25 years …some sort of thank you gesture would not go amiss. I am gutted he will not even consider one more show for those who did not make it. Nobody can change the weather but you can change the note you end it all on.….refund? Rescheduled date?.…Happy Christmas!!!x Cheers Mick
Unfortunately couldn’t get to the concert, would be a very good gesture if the organisers sent a copy of the concert recording so that we could at least absorb the atmosphere in our home. Really did our best to get there.
Sadly missed saturdays concert due to weather conditions — agree with others we should have some offer of compensation — it must have been obvious that there were many empty seats — upset it was our last chance to see simply red and ended this way
Couldn’t get to the concert along with many others it seems. Can’t believe the concert was not cancelled even though the Kisstory gig was cancelled in the same arena, due to adverse weather conditions. Cost me an absolute fortune for tickets and even pre-booked parking. I was supposed to take my niece for a 21st birthday present, was upset that we missed it but thought it would be too dangerous to travel and no guarantees we would even get there.
Spent hours trying to get there, eventually had to turn back, then spent hours getting home .….. gutted!!
So looking forward to last night, our hearts go out to all of you in the same boat.…… one last concert for those with unused tickets in the new year would be too much to ask I suppose???
Like many fans, we were unable to make it to the O2 as the roads were in chaos, the train system in meltdown, (last train 10pm) so we had to make the decision not to take the risk to travel — after all, we have kids to think about.
Would have loved to have seen the band for one last time, so gutted. Very disappointed especially as the IndigO gig was cancelled due to safety reasons. I do think SR’s management team should have taken the same viewpoint, however it was not to be.
Great band, great music, disappointing end to a fantastic 25 years.
Best wishes to you all.
We missed the concert last night due to the snow. Not the bands fault these things happen. As we still have the tickets wonder if the stub that we might normally hand in at the venue might get us a discount of the final night DVD and or CD.some gesture would be a rally nice way to end all our years of support.
Cannot get to a cinema tonight so maybe Mick and the band might think about it
Glad it went well.….….…..
gutted couldn’t there case of snow, Indigo was cancelled but not O2 — some of us live in the sticks
spent 7 hours stuck in the car due to snow and missed the concert Me wife and 2 children who are big fans all gutted.
nothing anyone can do put has put a real downer on the week end.
glad it appears to have gone well.Hes to getting a DVD of the event
Saw Mick and the boys in Australia. Was so hard not to go see them in London.
I feel so bad for the people that didn’t get to see them tonight.Life isn’t always fair.
What a night!! Such a great show and fantastic to see Dee and Sarah on stage. Mick was clearly suffering with a sore throat but held his voice superbly. The atmosphere was a lot better than on the 8th, but not quite as good as in Manchester on 12th!
Now looking forward (but not in a way) to the 19th!! We have been going for many years to see the band and we do not want this to end…
what a great show i am glad i managed to fight my way throught the snow would not of missed it for the world pity i wont be doing it again would like to wish you all the best for the future and mick get well soon xxx
G’day. Bloody brilliant show. So wonderful to see the full band. I have a soft spot for the full band, including the girls.
The band, the bandmaster were all brilliant. I hear a few differences from individuals in the band during the last couple of shows. Exciting stuff.
I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for a wonderful night. Cheers Pat
brilliant night, as always
sorry that will not see you live again but will continue to enjoy your music
thank you for the wonderful concerts / music over the past 25 years
all the best
Omg what a fantastic night will miss all these concerts, But look forward to all micks new stuff love and best wishes to simply red, merry christmas all!
My husband and I were two of the unfortunate people who were unable to get to the concert tonight, We think its awful that in view of the terribly bad weather that has brought the UK to a standstill, we are not entitled to a refund even a partial one, or at least the offer of a free live recording of the concert. If everyone who couldn’t get there make themselves known to the management perhaps something could be done!!!!
We don’t understand how people did make it unless they made it on foot from wherever they traveled.
We are really disappointed to not have been there, we bought our tickets in March.
Please someone, acknowledge my comments.
Would have loved to post a review but we could not get to the O2 due to the weather. Everybody was cancelling events left right and centre but not AEG. O2 cancelled an event at the Indigo2 because of concerns regarding the safety to public. NOT everyone lives in London.
I have spent £250 on 2 tickets and am unable to get to the 02 due to the weather. I am gutted and think Mick should do another concert for his many fans who have paid out for nothing!
