Saw Simply Red 1st July 2010 @ Epsom with my wife Sue, what a treat they blew us away — met and spoke to Pete Lewinson before the gig and cheekily asked if would let me have his drum sticks after the show.
He remembered as he left stage and got his drum tech to give them to me, I’ll frame them along with other Simply Red memorabelia.
I can’t believe we won’t be graced by their music or see them again.
Thanks guy’s for many years of sheer enjoyment.
Hi, Mick et al!!!
From what I have read on the message boards, you have been suffering from a chest infection but still rockin’ the fans!! I have to say that is the sign of a true professional performer and artist!! You have a great “The show must go on” attitude that you do not find in a lot of veteran performers. Usually, they would cancel a concert if they get the sniffles or even a paper cut–BUT NOT YOU. You keep on performing and the fans are not disappointed!!
However, I hope you will take it easy and rest and take any meds necessary to get better. You have a lot more concerts and traveling to do and I know you want to be in top form.
Like I said before, even though Simply Red isn’t performing in the States, it’s great to read the great feedback and get to see some parts of the tour on YouTube and on the SR site.
Rest, take it easy, have safe travels, and keep playing the beautiful, cool music that you were gifted to play.
Big Hugs to All!!
Linda
Kisses from Chile !!!!!
Three of us arrived early to get centre second row. When the concert started there were a sea of people stretching forever behind me included the jam packed tiered stands, with many more enjoying their own private space from across the other side of the race track.
I didn’t count the songs, but it was the conclusion of a race meeting and the ticket prices were a bargain.
Wonderful evening amongst a happy crowd with the band belting out the favourites. I’ve seen enough shows to guess if Mick thought it a cracker, his eyes were glistening with emotion near the end and his smiles said it all. Waving, wiggling, dancing and happy Mick thanked the crowd for a good night. This was my third concert of the tour, I’ve been sung to in a forest in Kent, stately home frequented by Kings and on a race course .…. marvellous nights each and every one, so pleased the modern idea is to take the music out of the arenas .…… last concert for me before O2 in December is the 14th July and that’s next to a lake .….….… bring it on.
Thank you so much for my SR experiences, but at Epsom … Ian, Dave, Pete, Kevin, Kenji, Steve and Mr H came in at 100 to 1 :) Love Sarah xx
Another great success, the concert — not the horses. Shortened set was doubtless tied to the statutory end-time (recent setlist minus Heaven, Enough & Fake)…Shame that both Heaven & Enough were out as they have really memorable aspects..
Hopefully Newbury might allow more flexibility for the lads..(Still waiting for You’ve Got It this tour)
The band were spot on, and if Mick is still suffering with his chest it didn’t show..
Thanks guys, see you next week.
p.s. Re Tickets: I only wish there were more tours for me to help out a few SR friends..
I wasn’t aware it was only 15 songs — the setlist seemed similar to previous recent ones — it was still a great concert and good value. I think it was a case of racing being delayed — it was supposed to end at 9:00 and ended about 15 minutes later — as I said, I bet there was a 10:30 curfew which meant that the band had no choice than to belt them out which they did very well — shame it might be my last SR concert — not sure about going to the O2, but I’m sure they’ll be back — just imagine the 35 year tour :)Is there any photos — mine are all blurred
A great show; not too disappointed about the length — just right for me. Don’t forget these ‘racenight’ concerts are great value for money and you’ld pay twice as much at an arena concert.
It was a great night, many thanks to Mick and the band for their music But I will have to agree with the previous posts — only 15 songs is a bit too short… I’m sure nobody would have complained if the races had been shorter and the show a bit longer instead! And yes, Neil deserves a special thanks too! for arranging the tickets and helping us out! Thanks Neil once again! :)
Having never seen Simply Red before – i have admired from afar – WHAT A NIGHT, Great venue, Great Songs, danced the night away, all in all a fantastic night, perfect way to spend a summer evening.
Another beautiful evening. Great atmosphere generally.
I enjoyed “To be with you” but it is a shame we only got 15 songs. I appreciate time is tight — perhaps they could have made the races shorter!
No materr how many times you see/hear the songs they are still fresh and exciting — goose bumps all over, particularly for Holding.….….. Now I’ve got to wait a whole week until the next show!
Just returned from another excellent Simply Red concert. A bit rushed because I think they started late because of the horse racing, and had to end by 10:30. disappointed not to hear heaven and Jericho. Thank you to Mick and the Band for an excellent night — Special thanks to Neil for letting me have the tickets.
