DOWNLOADING TRACKS FROM THE SIMPLY RED DOWNLOAD STORE
If you are new to downloading, read below to see how simple it really is.
It is actually very easy and fast and you can quickly build up your own compilation of favourite tracks or listen to full albums.
From our store you can download tracks to play either on your PC, your Mac, your iPod, your mobile phone or any other MP3 player. For downloading to your PC you just need to make sure your computer has (at least) Windows 98 with a Windows Media Player 7 or above (you can download the Media Player here). If you have an iPod you will probably already have installed the iTunes software and will be ready to go.
Our download store is powered by leading digital media company 7Digital. And just to be technical for a moment, our files are encoded at 192 kbps, which is much higher quality than the standard 128 kbps that you will find with other download services.
THE SIMPLY RED DOWNLOAD STORE
In our store there are 4 headings:
Browse Catalogue – what we have on sale at any time, click on any item for more details
My Downloads - where your tracks sit once you’ve bought or pre-ordered any tracks.
NB Pre-ordered tracks will only become downloadable from here on the date of release.
My Basket – holds your shopping until you pay
Click on the x on the right to take anything out of the basket that you put in there by mistake.
Help – helpful questions and answers
EASY STEPS TO DOWNLOADING
Basically you just follow the instructions in the download shop step by step but here we describe what happens:
The first time you want to buy something you click on pre-order or download and that takes you to My Basket. You can choose to continue shopping and buy more items or proceed from here to checkout. As soon as you go to checkout you move to a secure server where your credit card and personal details are completely safe.
Look out for the yellow padlock symbol in the bottom corner which indicates this.
You need to sign in to complete your purchase, which means at checkout you need to enter your email address and either select:
1) I am a new customer - which means you have to choose a password or
2) I am a returning customer - in which case enter the password you chose when you first used the shop
If you are new, enter your credit card details and they will be stored on the secure server (so you don’t need to enter them again next time unless you wish to use a different card).
Click on continue and once the details have been verified you have made your purchase. CONGRATULATIONS!
You will be emailed a receipt and your purchases will be made available to you immediately by clicking on My Downloads. There you will be able to download the tracks to play by clicking on the relevant format icon: Windows Media, i-Pod or MP3.
IT’S THAT SIMPLE!
NB For pre-orders those 3 icons won’t appear until the release date (eg. 5th March for ‘So Not Over You’ and ‘Debris’).
IS THIS YOUR FIRST DOWNLOAD?
If you don’t have an iPod or MP3 player but you do have a PC with Windows Media Player 7 (or above) installed then Windows Media is probably the best one to choose for your first download (remember, you can still download more copies of the song and different file types later).
To download a song to your computer after you have made your purchase, first click My Downloads, sign in, then click the Windows Media icon beside the track you wish to download, click on save and choose where to save the song so you can easily find it (on your desktop for example). Open it and you may find the first time you try and play it on your computer you may be asked to acquire a licence. If so, click on yes and enter your email address and the password you chose to verify you are the person who bought it. After that it will just play any time you click on it.
BURNING TO CD
If you’d like to burn your track to a CD and you’ve downloaded a Windows Media File, click on it and then in your Windows Media Player (where it will have started playing) right mouse over the song title on the right and choose Add to and Burn List then go to the Burn section (one of the choices on the top menu), put a blank recordable CD in your CD burner and click on Start Burn (top left). It will tell you when it’s been burnt to the CD successfully. To record several tracks to one CD, add them all to your burn list before starting the burn.
Once you get used to doing this you will probably find it quite a fun thing to do – creating your own unique CD’s with all your favourite tracks on!
